Symptoms: According to Mayo Clinic Staff, symptoms of schizophrenia include delusions, hallucinations, thought disorder, disorganized behavior, loss of interest in everyday activities, appearing to lack emotion, reduce ability to plan or carry out activities, neglect of personal hygiene, social withdrawal, loss of motivation, problems with making sense of information, difficulty paying attention, and memory problems. Possible dangerous actions displayed by Nash
Throughout the movie, Nash conducted several actions that were harmful to himself and others. When he believed he was being watched by the Soviets and was running away, he harmed those that were in his path. He also unintentionally almost killed his infant son in the bathtub because he believed someone else was watching him. Later, he pushed his wife because he thought Parcher was going to shoot her. These actions would be acceptable if his hallucinations were real, but they were not.
Circumstances that onset Nash's mental disorder
Nash's schizophrenia was onset when his safety was endangered. Because his hallucinations involved the Soviets after him, every time he felt endangered he was convinced it was the Soviets.
